The European Capital of Culture year's final season concert with choreographers Héla Fattoumi and Éric Lamoureux, eight dancers, the entire NorrlandsOperan Symphony Orchestra and the première performance of indie-pop musician, Peter von Poehl.
Héla Fattoumi and Éric Lamoureux have collaborated since 1988. Their works generally deal with strong subjects that generate waves of thoughts and feelings. In Masculines, which could be seen at NorrlandsOperan during the MADE Festival 2013, Héla Fattoumi and Éric Lamoureux examined the masculine viewpoint on women for example. The dancers appeared on stage in a great variety of clichéd femininities. In Manta (at NorrlandsOperan 2012) Héla Fattoumi clad himself in the role of a woman who lives her life under a burka.
Waves is still Fattoumi/Lamoureux, but this time the emotional waves are more of another kind. Perhaps mostly a state of mind. Perhaps mostly billowing and beautiful.
French choreographer meets Swedish indie-pop musician
This time, they have joined forces with Swedish-born musician Peter von Poehl – nowadays their fellow countryman. Von Poehl is a well-known indie-pop star of the French stage, but is also a big name as a composer of film music. Many of his songs, and perhaps above all The story of the impossible, from his first album Going To Where The Tea Trees Are, has been used in the context of film and television ads but he has also produced music for feature films such as Vanishing Waves and Main Dans la Main from 2012.
After his solo album in 2006 came May Day 2009. Both albums were produced in collaboration with Swede Christoffer Lundquist and were followed by tours with artists such as Ben Harper, Wild Beasts and Peter Doherty. His third and most recent album Big issues printed small was released in spring 2013. That same year, he began collaborating with Héla Fattoumi and Éric Lamoureux when work on the creation of entirely new music for the choreographed work Waves, which will be premièred at NorrlandsOperan, began. Héla Fattoumi and Éric Lamoureux have collaborated since 1988. Together they explore the body's intelligence and its inherent power in their unpredictable and dynamic artistry. They are currently active as artistic directors of the cultural institution Centre Chorégraphique National de Caen/Basse-Normandie in France. You can read more about Waves here.
