Out of Time
Out of Time offers audiences a brilliant performance by one of the world’s most talented artists within traditional Irish step dancing; Colin Dunne.
Out of Time was performed in front of a full house during the 2010 MADE Festival. Many requests for encore performances have been received since that time. NorrlandsOperan now welcomes back Colin Dunne, offering Umeå audiences the chance to spend two evenings with one of the world's premier step dancers.
Initially alone, Colin Dunne figure feels his way forward in his search for the dialogue between tradition's roots and innovation's freedom. Eventually he is joined by fellow dancers from film archives and accompanied by his own dance and step sounds. The sound is remixed and looped, producing a fascinating rhythm that comments on its self.
The performance is Dunne's first full-length solo production and has toured Europe since premiering in 2008.In many ways, Out of Time is the complete antithesis of the Riverdance phenomenon of the 1990s, in which Dunne was one of the principal dancers and choreographers for some years. This time, audiences instead meet a low-key and candid dancer up close. In a personal, humorous and earnest way, Dunne reveals his artistic vision using words, images and sound coupled with his brilliant dance technique.
