Get to know one of the giants of music history in a relaxed atmosphere! NorrlandsOperan's Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro Rumon Gamba, invites everyone with a curious streak to join us for a club concert with Benjamin Britten. After the concert - don't miss your chance to mingle to the sound of one of Umeå's hottest DJs in the bar.
A club evening with the symphony orchestra goes something like this: the conductor first explains the work, it is performed in its entirety, then you have the chance to mingle with the orchestra in the bar afterwards. Perfect for anyone who prefers somewhat shorter concerts, wants to know more about classical music and wants to enjoy a nice end to their week!
This time, Benjamin Britten is our chosen composer. He lived from 1913 to 1976 and apart from being a famous composer, was also a known pacifist. He was just 31 years old when he wrote his greatest opera, Peter Grimes (which NorrlandsOperan performed to rave reviews in 2009). The opera is set in a small, windblown fishing village surrounded by a large, menacing sea. In this concert, we will hear four interludes taken from the opera. They depict (in order) the dawn, a Sunday morning, moonlight and finally, a storm.
