The opera can also be told from the perspective of Marguerite who has lost almost her entire family. She falls, against all her better judgement, for a handsome man and becomes pregnant. When the man abandons her and the whole town turns against her, sheer desperation drives her to kill her child.

While Marguerite is in jail for her crime, Faust has a revelation and visits her in prison where she´s awaiting execution.

Faust is based on Goethe’s masterpiece of life’s existential challenges. In combination with Gounod’s music we welcome you to the poignant tale of Faust who sells his soul to the devil. Life’s big questions will surface and each story has multiple pages. When Norrlandsoperan takes on this classical piece, both Faust´s and Marguerite´s versions of the events are told.

Faust is directed by Eva-Marie Melbye and conducted by Eric Solén, scenography and costume by Marcus Olson.
