Help from the Forgotten Gods<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Outi Pieski is one of the leading S\u00e1mi artists exhibited at Tate Modern (2025), MARKK, Hamburg (2023-24), Venice Biennale (2019), Gwangju Biennial (2021), Sydney Biennial (2022) and GIBCA \u2013 Gothenburg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (2023).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Guhte gull\u00e1, young people dance to escape the anguish of world destruction and they invoke help from the forgotten S\u00e1mi earth gods Uks\u00e1hkk\u00e1, Juoks\u00e1hkk\u00e1 and S\u00e1r\u00e1hkk\u00e1. We lose our connection to the earth and our ancestors who rest underground. It is time for us to reconnect with the holiness deep within the earth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In their work Guhte gull\u00e1 \/ Here to hear, women from different generations listen to the voices of their foremothers through dance and duodji, traditional S\u00e1mi handicrafts. The mother-daughter relationship between Outi Pieski and Biret Haarla Pieski, G\u00e1ddj\u00e1 Haarla Pieski, fits appropriately with the theme of their first joint artistic collaboration. The room is filled with Tuomo Puranen’s ritually moving electronic music and Mari Boine’s joik, which invites us to change and pay attention to the messages of our foremothers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
