Two multi-part installations <\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The work *Cage without Cage*<\/em> is a multi-part installation<\/strong> that explores the American composer John Cage and his relationship with plants. It consists of photo series, video, an embroidered poem, and more. “I’ve recently become interested in indoor gardening.” <\/em>\u2013 John Cage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Well, I said a long time ago that if I were to live my life over again, I would be a botanist rather than an artist.”<\/em> \u2013 John Cage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I now have 200 plants, and when I’m home, they are my top priority.”<\/em> \u2013 John Cage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sabine Groschup is also presenting *MC unt des Pudels Charme*<\/em>\u2014or *MC and the Poodle\u2019s Charm*<\/em> in English\u2014<\/strong> an installation about the Greek-American singer Maria Callas and her relationship with her poodles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHer poodles were sacred to Maria Callas. Whenever possible, they were always there\u2014sometimes just one, sometimes two. (\u2026) According to Maria Callas, her dogs were the only ones who would never betray her. That\u2019s why she did everything she could to ensure that the Metropolitan Opera made an exception just for her and allowed the dogs at rehearsals. However, Maria Callas was not bothered by the fact that these poodles allegedly started howling during her Wagner arias. The poodles had to be with her always and everywhere. And if the dogs were unable to attend guest performances in London, for example, due to strict quarantine regulations, the guest performances were postponed. This went so far that the director of Covent Garden even secured a diplomatic arrangement for the poodles.\u201d<\/em> \u2013 Bavarian State Opera<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Sabine Groschup <\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Sabine Groschup is active in many fields, including visual arts, film, and literature. As a visual artist, she works across genres and exhibits paintings, video art, installations, textile works, and photographs both nationally and internationally. In recent years, solo exhibitions and group shows have taken her to New York, Seoul, Zagreb, Karlsruhe, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Copenhagen, Ostrava, Roanoke, Halberstadt, Amsterdam, Innsbruck, Munich, Bolzano, New Orleans, Schaffhausen, Istanbul, Venice, Bremen, Lausanne, Mdina\/Malta, Augsburg, Leipzig, Tutzing, and Ismaning. As a filmmaker, she advocates for artistic animated film, though she also creates experimental films and documentaries. As a writer, she is a fiction writer, poet, and essayist. In 2012, Sabine Groschup was awarded the Preis der Landeshauptstadt Innsbruck f\u00fcr k\u00fcnstlerisches Schaffen. In 2020, she received the Austrian government\u2019s grant for visual arts. She was born in Innsbruck in 1959 and lives and works in Vienna. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

About this fall’s curator, Georg Weckwerth <\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Artist, curator, exhibition organizer, producer, and festival director are just a few of the titles Georg Weckwerth, this fall\u2019s curator at Vita Kuben, can claim. Weckwerth is one of the leading curators in the field of sound art and is the founder and artistic director of TONSPUR Kunstverein, which has two venues in the Museumsquartier in Vienna. Georg Weckwerth received an award for his work as an art educator at the Prix Ars Electronica in 2010. He was born in 1965 in Herzberg am Harz and lives and works in Vienna, Hattorf am Harz, and Berlin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
