Meet the Musicians<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I am very proud and happy<\/strong> to have a permanent position in a professional symphony orchestra. Having made it through the ever-narrowing eye of the needle that auditions and probationary periods represent is something I try to keep in mind when things get tough at work. The variety in the music-making and the work at the Norrlandsoperan is probably the biggest draw that has made me stay and thrive in Ume\u00e5. One moment you\u2019re playing Strauss\u2019s *Elektra* in a gym, and the next you\u2019re going on tour to Vilhelmina with a Baroque ensemble! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The long bus trips have taken us in the orchestra<\/strong> to places in Sweden I didn\u2019t know existed\u2014or still existed. Like a brown aluminum door in Boden that leads to an underground community center with a complete \u201960s interior and a concrete orchestra pit. Or that \u201cNils Karlsson Pyssling\u201d feeling of wriggling through a small hatch from a beer storage room into the orchestra pit in \u00d6stersund. These are quirky and unique experiences that add some spice to life in the orchestra! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve been playing the violin since I was four<\/strong>, but I didn\u2019t fully commit to music until I started at the conservatory. As you get better and more involved, your own performance standards and self-criticism rise. At the Norrlands Opera, there\u2019s a supportive and constructive approach to making music that has been\u2014and continues to be\u2014a huge help to me in finding my calm and performing at the level I want without feeling nervous in front of my colleagues and the audience. This is incredibly valuable and rare in the orchestral world, and another major reason why I enjoy being here. Sure, I sometimes miss the bigger and more demanding settings, but for me, it\u2019s been enough to substitute for a few weeks in a larger orchestra to realize that what I have in Ume\u00e5 is very special. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Personal<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

As someone from southern Sweden, the winters\u2014or perhaps more specifically, the lack of spring\u2014can feel a bit claustrophobic, but ever since I discovered cross-country skiing, even that has become manageable. The distance to Norrk\u00f6ping and IFK\u2019s games has been a bigger dilemma, but perhaps that very distance has had a positive effect on my mood and blood pressure.
