Kanske slutar det i tystnad. En tystnad bakom tystnaden. Tystnaden när du är så långt uppe i fjällvärlden på natten att det enda du hör är ljudet från dina egna hjärtslag. Kanske slutar det tillsammans, sjungandes runt elden. Eller kanske slutar det aldrig. Vad kommer att hända om det inte finns något slut. En process. En föreställning. Kanske det fortsätter eftersom alla har något att hålla fast vid.
Detta är en tid som vi ännu inte har sett. Vi kan öva, vi kan förbereda oss för det oväntade. How to die – Inopiné är en tvärvetenskaplig utforskning av ekologisk sorg, kulturell panik och känslan av kollaps.
Umeås bidrag till föreställningen
I Umeå har koreograf, dansare, forskare, ljus-, ljud- och kostymdesigner, dramaturg m. fl. intervjuat, diskuterat och hållit workshops med flera av våra invånare och institutioner. Bland andra Vän i Umeå, Arkitekthögskolan och Polisen. Slutresultatet blev dels ett vetenskapligt symposium och publicering i en rapport i samarbete med Arkitekthögskolan och dels denna helkväll och dansföreställning med 5 dansare.
How to die – Inopiné är ett tvärdisciplinärt verk som engagerar artister, konstnärer och forskare att interagera med det lokala communityt med idén om “det vi inte kan föreställa oss” som ett politiskt och konstnärligt verktyg för att föra samman människor.

An unpredictable and unforgettable all night event with dance, performance and bonfire
Maybe it ends in silence. Like the silence beyond silence. The silence when you are so far into the mountains at night that the only sound is your heartbeat. Or maybe it ends together, around a bonfire singing. Or maybe it never ends. What would this be with no ending? A process. A performance. Maybe it continues, because everyone leaves with something to hold on to.
This is a time we have not yet imagined. We can practice, we can prepare for the unexpected. Inopine. We are on performance time, there is no starting over.
The French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy brings in the word inopiné [unexpected, sudden], which means “that which we don’t have an opinion or judgment, that which we haven’t yet imagined.”.
How to die – Inopiné is a transdisciplinary investigation, developed between Umeå and Oslo, about ecological grief, cultural panic, and a feeling of collapse.The collective of a choreographer, dancers, scientists, sound, light, and costume designer have interviewed, discussed with and given workshops to several inhabitants and institutions around these three thematics. Among others, the collective has worked with Vän i Umeå, Umeå School of Architecture, the Norwegian Climate and Forest initiative, CICERO (Center for international climate research), the Umeå Police, In Transit – safe spaces in crisis context, the Oslo School of Architecture.
How to die – Inopiné with its different segments, holds seminars, readings, lectures, dialogues with invited citizens, experts, and physical practices interwoven in a regular schedule; and here at Norrlandsoperan: a performance evening.
