Synopsis in English
Brigitte wants to be happy, Paula wants to be happy. Paula dreams of becoming a seamstress, while Brigitte already is one. Brigitte desires Heinz, Paula desires Erich. Both long for children and financial stability. They use their wit, their charm, and their bodies to gain the favor of men. But all bodies age. In this newly composed opera by Jenny Wilson, based on Elfriede Jelinek’s breakthrough novel from 1975, a painful question is brought to the forefront: How can women find happiness in a world where their success depends on men and the money they earn?
