Who makes up the Norrlandsoperan?
Norrlandsoperan began operations in 1974 as a small and bold opera ensemble, driven by a desire to create the performing arts of tomorrow. Today, Norrlandsoperan is an opera house featuring a symphony orchestra, opera, dance, music, art, as well as workshops and studios.
For 50 years, the Norrlandsoperan has been producing cultural experiences for Umeå, the region, and audiences nationwide and internationally, drawing just over 120,000 spectators annually. From spectacular opera productions to minimalist dance performances and everything in between.
There are many, and many different kinds of people, who contribute to Umeå and Västerbotten having northern Sweden’s most important and largest performing arts center. Everyone behind the scenes, the performers on stage—but also the audience in front. Everyone is involved; everyone is needed. The feeling that this is the moment it’s happening and that I’m a part of it is shared by everyone.

What does a blacksmith do at the Norrlands Opera?
The first production he worked on was in 2014, and since then, Fredrik Larsson has cut through countless mil of metal tubing in his role as workshop foreman and blacksmith at the Norrlands Opera.

The Norrlandsoperan Symphony Orchestra consists of world-class professional musicians from different parts of Sweden and the world. Cellist Bekhbat has been a member of the orchestra since 2018 and says that seeing the audience’s joy is the best part of his job: being able to create something that moves the audience.
