Breaking, West African dance, and swing/jazz
Go for it! is a playful, intimate, and compelling dance performance in which three dancers come together in an explosive stage presentation. Drawing on street dance roots from different eras and cultures—breaking, West African dance, and swing/jazz—the performance creates a dynamic fusion of tradition, rhythm, energy, and personal stories.
Åsa Heedman serves as the choreographer, and on stage we see Jacob Börlin, Demba Niang, and Daniel Heedman—three dancers with different backgrounds, life experiences, and physical languages, united by their love of dance. Together, they challenge norms, break down prejudices, and explore questions of identity and masculinity. Who can I be as a man?
Set to newly composed music by rapper, producer, and artist Zacke Lekberg , *Man up!* emerges as a modern and thought-provoking performance with a strong energy, presence, and attitude. It is a theatrical experience that moves, entertains, and raises questions, where street dance expressions from different generations and cultures come together in a contemporary narrative about masculinity.
Those of you who attended the 2026 Up North festival had the chance to see dancer Jacob Börlin, who won the breaking category “Seven to Smoke”!
