Dystopian and melancholy. But also swinging, beautiful and hopeful. When Martin Hederos meets Elin Anna Labba, magic is created where text meets music in an innovative and explosive symbiosis.

Martin Hederos from Karlstad is perhaps best known as the founder of the successful group Soundtrack of Our Lives, where he also played keyboards. He is also a member of the band Tonbruket and has as a songwriter made a number of collaborations with, among others, Anna Ternheim, Weeping Willows, Ane Brun, Sofia Karlsson and Ulf Lundell.

Elin Anna Labba is an award-winning Sámi author and journalist from Jukkasjärvi. Her debut Herrarna satta oss hit came in 2020 and is about the forced displacement of Sámi people in Sweden in the early 1900s. For this, she was awarded the prestigious August Prize. In 2024, she made her debut novel with Far inte till havet, a story about three women during the 20th century hydropower era in Sápmi.

Now these shining stars meet in a unique collaboration with her lyrics and his music, backed by a bunch of skilled musicians from Sweden and the world.

In this performance, we are treated to a newly written poetic story read by Elin Anna Labba herself. It is about a little boy who melts when the climate warms.

“It’s a kind of poetic fairy tale, although it’s not a fairy tale at all. It’s about children and the climate with a very real background here in the north, where the climate crisis hits most clearly,” she says.

At the same time, Martin Hederos puts his music as a quiet veil over the story.

“There will be music inspired by her poem, but there will not be poetry readings with jazz interludes. Instead, I hope and believe in a total feeling, where we can meet,” he says.
