25 years in the service of choreography

Umeå-based choreographer Hagar Malin Hellkvist Sellén celebrates 25 years in the service of choreography this year.

She was born and raised in Umeå and in the late 90s she moved away from here to train as a choreographer at the School of Dance in Stockholm. She stayed in the capital for over two decades, until she moved back here to her birthplace just over two years ago. Here she now runs the business Västerbottens koreografiska, which works with contemporary choreography for various formats.

During her career, she has created a large number of works, many of which have become beloved audience favorites, including Better People, Pink Promises and The Missionary.

This autumn, she will have the world premiere of the new work Drive Hunger here at Norrlandsoperan, which is co-produced by us and Dancenet Sweden.

On March 31, we have the opportunity to meet Hagar Malin Hellkvist Sellén in a close conversation with Anja Arnquist, Norrlandsoperan’s artistic director of dance, about her artistry, about intuition, the new work, the Västerbotten vocation and about why choreography is so incredibly interesting.
