Hip hop takes over the stage

For three years, Norrlandsoperan collaborates with stages all over Europe to find and support the most awesome dance creators in street dance and hip hop and share the excitement with others. In November, we have the honor to present:

Black Pearl de Almeida Lima

FEM(IN)ME

FEM(IN)ME allows the audience to witness Black Pearl’s personal journey of resilience and self-acceptance. Driven by the interplay of light and sound, Black Pearl navigates through different spaces. The dance, initially driven by joy, transitions to the pressure to adapt and perform in order to please others. She awakens to moments of insight and empowerment, fueled by the raw energy of various dance styles: hip-hop, classical, contemporary, and vogue. “Anybody walking?”

Camilla Siddu

So Close, Away

In So close, Away, hip hop dancer and choreographer Camilla Siddu together with dancers Michael Rossi and Zuni Trosborg explores the gestures of love through the story of three childhood friends and their connection. The story explores how separation affects relationships and how these small gestures deeply impact our lives, by creating unique memories on our travels.

CREATE4

Hereditary

The exploration of what we have (or haven’t) learned from our fathers. As we grow up to be men, our fathers’ absences become more evident than ever. We carry their memories with us as a guide, hoping that their shadows live on within us and protect us. Two young black men, from different parts of the world, explore the deep-seated toxic masculinity that is passed down from generation to generation – sometimes through a father present, and other times through the absence of a father figure. In a physically charged dialogue, where the conversation is mixed with hip-hop dancing, they share their experiences and learn from both their differences and similarities.
