Residens Stage 5

Norrlandsoperan Dans, Sara Kulturhus, Västerbottensteatern, and Dans i Västerbotten invite professional dancers residing in Sweden to apply for Residens Scen 5.

The residency will take place at Sara Kulturhus in Skellefteå during weeks 24-25, 2027, and is open to choreographers, dancers, and artistic teams wanting to deepen an ongoing project or explore new ideas within dance and choreography.

We welcome projects in all phases, from early-stage research and artistic exploration to creation and rehearsal. The residency offers time and space to focus on the artistic process.

About the Residency

Residens Scen 5 aims to contribute to sustainable working conditions for professional dance artists by providing time, space, and financial support for artistic work.

We encourage residents to include some form of sharing during their residency, such as a process showing, a talk, or an open workshop for the public, although this is not required.

The residency takes place in Scen 5 at Sara Kulturhus. Located high up in the building, Scen 5 is a beautiful wooden studio space with a large glass facade. The venue offers adapted acoustics, a sound system, blackout possibilities, and a floor area of 9.6 × 15 m.

Additional technical equipment, such as stage lighting, is not included.

If you have questions regarding accessibility or require specific accommodations, please do not hesitate to contact us.

As a resident, you will receive:

  • Two weeks of access to Scen 5

  • Production grant of 80,000 SEK | The grant may be used freely by the artistic team for fees, production costs, or other expenses related to the residency.

  • Accommodation for up to six people in studio apartments. Accommodation for accompanying family members may be possible.

  • Hosting and practical support throughout the residency period.

Travel costs to and from the residency are the responsibility of the artistic team.

What we want to make possible

Residency Scen 5 is a collaboration between Norrlandsoperan Dans, Dans i Västerbotten, Västerbottensteatern, and Sara Kulturhus.

Together, we aim to create strong conditions for professional dance artists to deepen their artistic practice. By bringing together expertise in regional dance development, performing arts production, and cultural venue operations, we offer a place where artistic processes can take the time they need.

Norrlandsoperan Dans presents, produces, and develops contemporary dance on a regional, national, and international level.

Dans i Västerbotten works to strengthen the conditions and accessibility of dance throughout the region through development, collaboration, and artistic exchange.

Sara Kulturhus is a meeting place for culture, art, and learning, offering professional environments for artistic work and collaboration.

Västerbottensteatern is the regional theatre of Västerbotten and produces performing arts with strong roots in the region.
