Behind the name 1900 lies the multifaceted composer, artist, and sound artist Christian Gabel. Using old-fashioned recording equipment and an unbeatable knack for minimalist melodies, he revisits and reimagines the previous century in noisy sound collages. In 2018, ten years after his self-titled debut album, he took the stage at the Orionteatern to perform his music live for the first time. A concert series that is now considered something of a classic.
The 1900 Project has become an unlikely success story, with many people taking its instrumental music to their hearts. The song “Den minsta av segrar” has even become something of a hit, frequently featured on various TV shows. Their debut was followed in 2016 by the album *Tekno*, which also used collages of sounds and melodies captured with analog reel-to-reel tape recorders to create a world all its own—a world that truly comes into its own on stage.
With his audiovisual concert, Gabel has created a format in which film and music come together in a hypnotic flow.
In the spring of 2024, a third 1900 album, *Kontragarde*, was released. The album thematically explores artistic creation in general and the concept of the avant-garde in particular.
In the fall of 2025, the production will return to the Dramaten in Stockholm. The two evenings on the national theater’s stage are part of a tour that will also make stops in Gothenburg, Helsingborg, Lund, Umeå, Piteå, and Copenhagen.
