Musical Magician

Johan Lindström has been described as a musical wizard and is one of Sweden’s most sought-after musicians. He is known both as a guitarist (particularly on the pedal steel guitar) who has backed numerous artists and as a highly sought-after arranger. Over the past ten years, he has produced and arranged more than 25 albums. Rebecka Törnqvist, Ane Brun, Freddie Wadling, Totta Näslund, Titiyo, and Anna Ternheim are just a few of the artists Johan Lindström has collaborated with.

In 2020, the Norrbotten Big Band had the honor of having him as Composer in Residence. Over the course of a year, he met regularly with the big band musicians for rehearsals, crafting colorful and imaginative compositions that resulted in both live performances and an acclaimed album titled *Johan Lindström & Norrbotten Big Band*.
Lindström himself has described the music on the album as “a kaleidoscope where the pattern takes shape to the sounds of zombie-cha-cha, big-band folk, instrumental hip-hop, and a little bit of Kurt Weill, Igor Stravinsky, and Peres Perado thrown in for good measure.”

The album, released in 2023, received rave reviews, and it is with this music that Johan Lindström and the Norrbotten Big Band are now reuniting for a delightful concert.
Norrbotten Big Band is a modern big band with deep roots in the jazz tradition and a repertoire that extends into soul, funk, and contemporary art music. The band has been nominated for several Grammis Awards and has also been nominated for an international Grammy.

The band’s artistic director is Joakim Milder, who has described Johan Lindström in the following words: “Gifted with an incredibly rich imagination, a bold openness, aesthetic refinement, and a well-developed ability to articulate artistic ideas.”
