Sami Culture and Joik

Sara Ajnnak is an artist, joik singer, songwriter, and composer from Gargnäs in Västerbotten. She grew up in the reindeer herding community and has delved deeper than most into reclaiming and revitalizing joik and her Sámi cultural heritage. With a series of acclaimed and award-winning full-length albums, as well as international concert tours, she is today a powerful voice for Sámi culture, combining her artistic expression with a deep commitment to indigenous issues. In January, she will embark on a workshop tour for children and young people in the inland municipalities of Västerbotten, together with Julla Májja—the Sámi library bus.

Sara meets with elementary school students—from preschool through middle school—and talks about Sami culture and sings joiks with the children.
