Maxida interprets Swedish songs

Over the past decade, the force of nature, Maxida Märak has been a natural and multifaceted voice on the Swedish cultural scene. With her unique blend of music, acting and community engagement, she has made a strong impression – and now she is taking a new, unexpected step in her creative journey. In the spring of 2025, she will release the album Lånat, where she interprets Swedish songs with a personal and modern touch.

With deep roots in the song tradition, Maxida gives new life to classic songs, where the joik has an obvious place. During the spring, several singles will be released for the album, first out is Ska nya röster sjunga, an interpretation by Mikael Wiehe that will be released on April 25.

“Fight songs are timeless. They are born in times of unrest and are just as relevant now as they were then. To be able to fight, you need hope for new voices,” says Maxida.

Lånat is a musical bridge between then and now – not a paraphrase, but a respectful management and further development of the soul of the song.

“It’s exciting to change tracks. This music has always been in me, but only now does it feel right to do something completely new,” says Maxida.

Known for her genre-crossing curiosity, she moves from hip-hop’s raw expression to the poetic narrative of the song. Through songs about the country, the people and dreams, she wants to highlight the beautiful and the kind – what we may have lost.

About Maxida Märak

Maxida Märak lives in Jokkmokk, has toured internationally, released three albums and created a unique fusion between hip hop and joik. She has appeared in radio, TV and film, including in Midnight Sun, So Much Better and the Netflix series Åremorden. In 2024, she released the album Anekdot and wrote the music for SVT’s Christmas calendar Snödrömmar.
