New Chief Conductor

A few quick facts about our new chief conductor:

Eduardo Strausser was born in 1985 in São Paulo, Brazil, and now lives in Berlin. He is frequently engaged by concert halls and opera houses in Europe, Latin America, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, and has worked on both new compositions and classical operas.

He speaks eight languages fluently* and is described by many as a charismatic conductor. He is also immensely popular among our musicians—which contributed to his appointment as principal conductor with responsibility for future programming.

One thing we appreciate about Eduardo is that he really cares about the audience. Now we hope you’ll all get along well!

We’re kicking off the season with beautiful music from the last two centuries.

First up is *Sturm und Drang* by composer Frangis Ali-Zadeh, who also lives in Berlin. Her compositions blend Western modernism with traditional mugham music from Azerbaijan.

Then we move on to Béla Bartók’s Third Piano Concerto, together with the Swedish star pianist, Roland Pöntinen.

Of course, we’ll end the concert on a high note with Antonín Dvořák’s lively Eighth Symphony.

* What languages does he speak? Well, Portuguese, Romanian, English, Hebrew, Spanish, French, German, and Italian. Maybe Swedish will be the ninth?
