Revolution: Blues! aims to open more young people’s eyes to the magical world of the blues and inspire more young women to play the blues themselves.
In their day-to-day lives, Elin Öberg and Eva-Mi Ringqvist are members of the Stockholm-based blues band Among Lynx.
Throughout history, the blues has been a musical genre dominated by male musicians, but this duo wants to change that. The audience will learn more about the blues and its history, with a strong focus on female role models in the blues, such as Big Mama Thornton, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and Memphis Minnie.
“This is a pretty male-dominated genre, and we want to work toward a more gender-equal music scene. In the blues, it’s mainly men who are instrumentalists. Both Eva-Mi and I wish we’d dared to take that step earlier in life,” says Elin. The hope is that “Women of the Blues” will inspire feelings of inspiration, curiosity, and confidence.
It’s going to be lively, energetic, and educational on stage when Elin and Eva-Mi take the stage.
