Concert

Vibrant, grand and close

Lars Gullin, composer, arranger and baritone saxophonist (1928-1976) is one of Sweden’s most famous jazz musicians of all time. He was an innovator who, in his compositions and arrangements and in his playing, added a new dimension to jazz. The conductor of the concert will be Johan Siberg, who also wrote the majority of the arrangements. As a soloist, we meet Per “Texas” Johansson, one of Sweden’s most personal jazz musicians who has several Grammy awards and the Golden Record in his luggage. In his music there is a clear sense of melodic and timbre that ties in with Lars Gullin, whose expressions continued to inspire long after his death.

Emmalisa Hallander, the award-winning singer (both Monica Zetterlund and Alice Babs scholarship recipient!) captures the Swedish melancholy through her unique jazz filter. Her latest album was named one of the best of the year in SvD and by Jazzradion in P2.

It will be a unique opportunity to experience music inspired by Gullin in a new interpretation – alive, magnificent and close.

The concert takes place during Umeå Jazz Festival and is played at Umeå Folkets Hus.
