Sonorous premiere and symphony in a time of change
When the Norrland Opera Symphony Orchestra plays with conductor and trombonist Christian Lindberg, a new Swedish work stands side by side with Beethoven. The evening begins with the world premiere of Jan Sandström’s Symphony No. 1, a new orchestral work. Jan Sandström is one of our most famous composers. He has worked to find a pleasurable and sometimes almost naïve feeling in his compositions.
After that, Christian Lindberg is the soloist in his own work Mandrake in the Corner, where the trombone shows both playfulness and power.
Then comes Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2. The work was written during a time of change in the composer’s life and is full of energy, unexpected rhythms, and ends in a powerful finale.
