About the Workshop

Raphael Moussa Hillebrand invites you to a dynamic and inclusive workshop where you’ll explore both technique and different ways of connecting through dance—via cyphers, soul trains, and call-and-response. Community, creativity, and improvisation take center stage here. The circle, the primordial form of dance, is not just a space for movement—it embodies power, history, and collective presence. We’ll delve into its deep roots and explore how, through dance, we can make connection—with one another and with something greater than ourselves.

The workshop is open to everyone, regardless of previous dance experience or background. You don’t have to be a pro—just curious about expressing yourself through movement and connecting with others in a vibrant, creative space.

About Raphael

Raphael Moussa Hillebrand is a choreographer, dancer, curator, lecturer, and activist. He was born in Hong Kong, has roots in both Germany and West Africa, grew up in Berlin, and was trained in hip-hop. His artistic work is a powerful blend of body and language—a creative journey through decolonial narratives that encourages reflection on our ingrained ways of thinking. With a presence like few others and an infectious openness, Hillebrand demonstrates how the body can become a tool for challenging injustices and bringing about change. In 2020, he was awarded the German Dance Prize for his significant artistic contribution to dance. His latest work, 2050 – Unsere Utopien, premiered in October 2024 at Radialsystem in Berlin.
