Hip hop version of monumental musical work

Many of our greatest choreographers have embarked on The Rite of Spring; Pina Bauch, Maurice Béjart, Mats Ek and many more. With In Bloom , choreographers Annabelle Loiseau and Pierre Bolo give a new color to this monumental musical work by creating a hip hop version; intuitive, contemporary and highly urban.

Ten dancers with their own style

Ten dancers, each with their own style, form a mosaic of untamed women and men, with bold energy, sensitivity and richness of detail. At times with a feeling of a rave party. As if to protect themselves and their youth from the harsh realities of the outside world and life in order to grow and change together, not by sacrificing anyone , but rather by jointly sacrificing something. With down-to-earth dancing and a dream of flying, the dancers swirl across the stage, pouring out and blossoming. A monumental piece of music is brought back to life and given body.

History of the Rite of Spring

When The Rite of Spring was premiered in 1913 by the Russian Ballet in Paris, it attracted a great deal of attention. Both Stravinsky’s music and the dance itself were perceived as so provocative that the audience stiffened. A commotion ensued in the auditorium and the theatre had to call the police.

Today, Stravinsky’s music is considered one of the most influential musical pieces of the 20th century. However, the ballet itself fell into oblivion. Partly because it was not played, partly because the innovative choreographer Nijinsky did not write down how the work was to be performed. In 1987, Joffrey Ballet in the United States finally performed a revival of Nijinsky’s scandalous choreography, after 18 years of reconstruction work.
