Virtuosic and dazzlingly skilled dancers
With the performance NO , the former soloists of the Ballet Nacional de España, Irene Tena and Albert Hernández, deepen their own creation in the duo La Venidera. In NO , they take us into their most personal universe, exploring the vibrating friction between them and asking themselves who they are and what has shaped their path in recent years.
As part of a younger generation of flamenco dancers, they allow the audience to experience the meeting between tradition and the present through their eyes. When tradition is rubbed against new influences, a perfect space arises to ask questions while a contemporary gaze is directed towards the Spanish dance language. They are not making this journey alone – among the co-creators of NO , they have been joined by Marcos Morau, the world-renowned choreographer and director of company La Veronal, who has chosen to follow the young duo as artistic guides in this new chapter in their promising careers.
La Venideres’ work is characterized by a penchant for detail, pride in craftsmanship and in how they highlight the pause in a time of technological noise. One of their starting points for NO has been questions of absence and denial, as they believe that art arises precisely from the denial of the real world.
Also participating on stage is live musician Derek V Bulcke.
ABOUT La Venidera
Albert Hernández and Irene Tena were engaged for a long time at the Ballet Nacional de España, where they worked as soloists under the direction of Rubén Olmo. Today, after leaving the ensemble and forming their own company, they continue to periodically collaborate with the institution. Most recently, they guest danced in the successful production Afanador, directed by Marcos Morau, which was also available to watch on SVT Play in the spring of 2026.
La Venidera had her breakthrough with Hilo Roto at the Madrid en Danza International Festival 2019, a work that attracted a lot of attention and earned Irene Tena a nomination for Female Dancer of the Year at the Max Awards 2020. The duet Loca, taken from Hilo Roto, was awarded several prestigious awards and has since toured widely, including as a finalist at the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition where it received the Audience Award.
Since 2020, they have been creating works in close collaboration with established institutions and contexts. Seville, produced for the Spanish National Ballet, is now part of their repertoire, and since then La Venidera has developed both scenic and site-specific works, such as Acompanyament a l’arquitectura and Paseantes. Through the Acieloabierto network, their work has reached a wide audience at festivals around Spain.
In 2024–2025, their artistic work was further broadened through collaborations with Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, Fundación Juan March and Institut del Teatre. The work Pineda resulted in a Talía nomination for Best Choreography, and NO marks a new artistic chapter with the support and artistic guidance of Marcos Morau. In 2026, they will begin the national and international tour with NO, first at Norrlandsoperan’s Spring Salon with an excerpt and with the work in its entirety in Montpellier, further consolidating their position on the contemporary dance scene.
They have also had time for a co-lab with the famous fashion house Hermès.
