No Lights No Lycra was founded in Melbourne, Australia, in 2009, and has since spread globally. The concept is simple: no lights, no mirrors, no performance—just you and the music. Dance is a powerful tool for self-expression, relieving stress, and improving well-being. By dancing in the dark, you can let your body move freely, spontaneously, and without inhibitions.
How Does It Work?
Arrival: When you arrive at NLNL, you’ll be greeted by our friendly hosts, who will show you into the dance studio.
Darkness: The room is already dark when you walk in, and the music is playing. You can start dancing right away or take a few minutes to get used to the darkness.
Dance: You dance however you like, to an eclectic mix of music. Our playlists are designed to cater to a wide range of musical tastes and different energy levels.
Conclusion: After about an hour, the music fades out, and the lights slowly come on. You can then leave the room at your own pace.
Safety and Comfort
We take safety very seriously to ensure that all participants have a safe and enjoyable experience.
Lighting Effects: To preserve the darkness and a sense of security, we do not use any bright lighting effects during dance sessions. If lighting is needed for safety reasons, we use discreet and soft light sources.
Darkness: Our facilities are carefully designed to ensure safe movement, even in the dark. We have a level floor free of obstacles that could cause tripping or injury.
Friendly Audience Assistants: Our audience assistants are on hand to help if anyone feels unsure or needs assistance during the session.
Emergency Exits: Despite the darkness, all emergency exits are clearly marked with unobtrusive, glow-in-the-dark signs that are easy to follow in the event of an evacuation.
