A dance tribute to life and the bonds between people

At the center is the invincible sun and humanity’s enduring reverence and celebration, throughout history, of the life that the sun makes possible for us.

The stage becomes a playground for a diverse group of 17 extraordinary dancers, with backgrounds in a wide variety of dance forms, martial arts, and acrobatics. The dancers come from different parts of the world, from the Amazon to Siberia. Accompanied by a collage of music—ranging from Beethoven to drumbeats—they treat us to a dance that is equally grounded and soaring, flying across the stage to rise toward the light.

A Declaration of Love

Choreographer Hervé Koubi describes the performance as his declaration of love for dance.

“I want to talk about love, mutual aid, solidarity, light, and the connection that unites us to life. It is urgent—not only to bring people together, but also to offer hope. Only by embracing the challenge of living life to the fullest—of bringing light into our own darkness—can our existence find meaning and fulfillment. In Sol Invictus, we celebrate life and mock death as we dance. I want to turn the stage into a playground full of possibilities, welcoming a dance that laughs—a dance that comes from the heart, from the mouth, from the hips, from the feet on a burning earth. As bright as a life filled with the joy of dancing… together.”

About the choreographer

Hervé Koubi began his career as a dancer at the National Choreographic Center of Nantes. For the past 20 years, he has been working as a choreographer with his own company.

His choreographic work stems from a blend of techniques and influences, at the crossroads between urban dance and ballet. Hervé Koubi wants to blur the boundaries and create a ballet for the 21st century.

In July 2015, he was awarded the Order of the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
