WHO PLAYS A PIPE?

These are the opening words to the first choral performance in Lars-Erik Larsson’s lyrical suite God in Disguise , to a text by Hjalmar Gullberg. The drama is about the god Apollo, who was condemned to perform as a human being for a year and serve as a servant to King Admetus in Thessaly. The soloists are Kerstin Rönn soprano, Marcus Bartoletti baritone, Anders Lundström narrator and choirs from the Music Programme at Midgårdsskolan.

The concert begins with the Academic Festival Overture , which Johannes Brahms wrote in 1879 on the occasion of his appointment as an honorary doctor. After Brahms follows In the Vicinity of the Wind, dedicated to Umeå Music Society and which is a world premiere composed by Alvar Dahlberg – a recent graduate from Piteå College of Music. The choir then sings Trilo, a folk song from the Swedish west coast and the song Á Million Dreams from the musical The Greatest Showman together with Umeå Music Society.
