Romance and a newly written commissioned work

This is the second time that the Norrland Opera Symphony Orchestra is joined on stage by Yamaha Disklavier in a newly written commissioned work. In February, it was Maria W Horn’s music that was premiered. Now it is the turn of Daniel Nelson, the composer behind the successful opera Pride and Prejudice , which Norrlandsoperan staged in the spring of 2024.

Wilhelm Stenhammar (1871–1927) can be described as the Swedish equivalent of Denmark’s Nielsen and Norway’s Grieg. He wrote his Serenade in F major during a long stay in Italy. The work is dedicated to his wife Helga and contains both drama and Nordic melancholy.

The master of High Romanticism, Robert Schumann (1810–1856), also had his wife in mind when he composed the work Overture, Scherzo, Finale, which opens the evening’s concert. Newly married and in love with Clara, inspiration flowed and the work was created during a three-week rush of joy.

The orchestra is led by world conductor Patrik Ringborg, a regular guest of ours, whom we last met when Amalie Stalheim played Anders Nilsson’s cello concerto in the autumn of 2021.
