Mechanisms of a Cult

THIS IS NOT A RELIGION begins just like all manipulation – with flattering words, encouragement and promises of a rosy community. The seven dancers welcome you and kindly but firmly take command. Their smiles are intoxicatingly happy and their bodies meticulously choreographed. But beneath the surface of security, manipulation begins to emerge, and the line between collective affinity and controlling power blurs.

Bobbi Lo has become known for her rich movement language that speaks to all the senses and therefore becomes open and inclusive. With an articulate design language and sharp aesthetics, they form performing arts works where the audience can meet both themselves and the dancers at very close range. The performances are characterized by a strong physical expression that in its theme is based on an interest in human behavior.

THIS IS NOT A RELIGION is the third part of Bobbi’s trilogy about power, peer pressure and abuse of power. The performance offers an intense and captivating dance experience that explores the mechanisms of authority and the subtle discomfort that grows from blind trust. In a meticulously choreographed mix of movement, voice and well-composed tones, the mechanisms of the cult are exposed.
