A wave of magnetic energy with philosophical undertones

Land before time is an artist-run duo where Joanna Holewa Chrona and Yared Tilahun Cederlund. With roots in street dance, their collaboration has developed into a flowing and unique dance practice, deeply inspired by the rhythm and movement of water.

In the performance Waterkind , the invisible, but strong, connection between two bodies without physical contact is explored. Through improvisation, the duo lets their dance stand in a delicate dialogue with each other. Each movement is part of a flow that is reminiscent of the uninterrupted flows and rhythms of water. It becomes a dance that combines freestyle and popping in a powerful and distinctive language. Waterkind is an artistic inventory of the invisible ties that bind us together – both engaging and seductive in its expressiveness and presence.

Waterkind is selected by Aerowaves as part of their Twenty25 artists and was presented at the Spring forward festival on April 24–26, 2025 in Gorizia and Nova Gorica (IT/SI). Touring with Dancenet Sweden in the spring of 2026.

Joanna Holewa Chrona

Since 2020, she has focused on her own stage productions, festivals, exchanges and workshops.

Joanna began her South African collaborations in 2015 and has since been increasingly involved through her non-profit organization AFIA. The organization organizes an annual festival that since 2016 presents South African culture. Many of Joanna’s works are inspired by South African music, text and movement, and she strives to respectfully combine cultures and perspectives in collaboration with all participating artists. One of AFIA’s latest and still most touring works is Yebo yes!, a co-production with Dancenet Sweden.
