First time and magnificent symphony
Yes, this is the first time that the Norrland Opera Symphony Orchestra has both a human and a non-human soloist. Lisa Ullén is a versatile pianist who moves in jazz, avant garde, modern and experimental music. She also plays on, and at the same time together with, our self-playing grand piano from Yamaha. The music is written by composer Maria W Horn, born in 1989 in Härnösand, now living in Stockholm.
Horn creates electroacoustic sound worlds with varied instrumentation and striking meditative moods. She is also co-founder of the record label XKatedral, where she has released three albums, the latest, the vocal work Panoptikon, inspired by a historic prison in Luleå.
Paul Hindemith’s magnificent symphony Mathis der Maler from 1934 concludes the concert. At that time, his music was banned by the Nazi regime. But art has the ability to survive most things. Let’s celebrate it too, now that we’re at it.
